World’s Best Study Adventure WBSA 2014 – Izumisano

For this second instalment of the World’s Best Study Adventure, rather than have a competition that embraces the globe, SUNED has decided to focus attention on a particular friend of the Sunshine Coast, namely Izumisano-city  in Japan. For many years the Sunshine Coast region and Izumisano-city have been involved in educational and sporting exchanges. Izumisano-City has sent study-holiday groups to the Sunshine Coast and both the Sunshine Coast and Izumisano have sent runners to each other’s city-marathon events. Sunshine Coast runners have enjoyed the hospitality of Izumisano when taking part in the Senshu International Marathon, and Izumisano-city runners have been guests of the Sunshine Coast Marathon.

WBSA 2014 involves a special sort of exchange between the Sunshine Coast and Izumisano-city.

Primary School students in each city will create art-works that express how they feel about their particular region. Sunshine Coast students will create art-works about their particular region in South east Queensland, while Izumisano-city students will do the same for their city in the Osaka region of Japan.

Twenty art-works will be submitted from each side and the other city will choose a winner, 2nd and 3rd place getters from amongst these.

Izumisano-city will select a 1st (Gold medal), 2nd (Silver medal) and 3rd place (Bronze medal) from the 20 Sunshine Coast art-works; and the Sunshine Coast will select a 1st (Gold medal), 2nd (Silver medal) and 3rd place (Bronze medal) from the 20 Izumisano art-works.

The winner from each city will be offered a one-week trip with one of their parents to the other city.

The Sunshine Coast winner will travel to Izumisano-city for one week with one of their parents and the Izumisano-city winner will travel to the Sunshine Coast for one week with one of their parents.

Each city will provide the airfares, accommodation, and activities for the other. The Sunshine Coast providing for the Izumisano-city winner and their parent, and Izumisano-city providing for the Sunshine Coast winner and their parent.

The twenty art works from each city will be exhibited in the other city.

The twenty Sunshine Coast art works being exhibited in various locations in Izumisano-city and the twenty Izumisano-city art works being exhibited in various locations on the Sunshine Coast.

The entire venture being an occasion for educational, cultural and civic exchange between the Sunshine Coast and Izumisano-city; as well as an opportunity to highlight the positive qualities each place holds for visitors be they educational or purely tourist.

SUNED’s WBSA 2014 has the support of both the Sunshine Coast and Izumisano-city municipal governments.
